Lewis is a dedicated educator and passionate outdoor enthusiast. With over twenty-five years of summer camp experience and twelve years of teaching science and coaching in independent schools, he has always sought ways to merge his love for nature with his commitment to student growth. A lifelong outdoorsman, Lewis spends much of his free time fishing and exploring the natural ecosystems of the Virginia piedmont.
Woodberry Compass, designed to spark curiosity and foster a deeper connection with the natural world, encourages students to step outside their comfort zones, learn about local ecosystems, and develop hands-on skills. Through activities like high/low ropes, engineering projects, fly fishing, and orienteering, Lewis hopes to instill a sense of environmental stewardship in his campers, while also helping them build confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Lewis believes that the best way to learn is through experience, and Woodberry Compass, held on Woodberry's 1200-acre campus, provides an immersive setting for students to not only gain knowledge, but to cultivate a lifelong curiosity about the world around them. His approach blends education with adventure, helping campers discover their potential while fostering a deep respect for the outdoors.
