Woodberry Forest School Appoints Andrew “Ace” Ellis Chief Financial Officer

Andrew “Ace” Ellis will return to Virginia this summer to become the chief financial officer of Woodberry Forest School. Ace is currently the chief financial officer at Emma Willard School, an all-girls boarding and day school in Troy, New York.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to work with Ace Ellis as Woodberry's next chief financial officer. Ace is a passionate educator with wide and deep experience at a range of independent schools, as well as work in the private sector,” Headmaster Byron Hulsey said. “Ace is uniquely positioned to support Woodberry Forest as we move into our upcoming strategic plan. He will be a team-oriented leader committed to Woodberry's mission and our eagerness to be an even better place for boys to go to school.”

Ace and his wife, Mary, are already familiar with Woodberry Forest. Mary’s father, Jim Price, is a member of Woodberry’s Class of 1963. Ace graduated from St. Christopher’s School in Richmond and then earned a degree in mathematical economics from Wake Forest University and a master’s in business administration from the University of Richmond.

Ace’s professional career began in his hometown of Richmond at Crestar Bank. He served as the business manager at St. Christopher’s before advising a number of independent schools through his own consulting firm. He recently completed a term on the board of directors of the National Business Officers Association. He has regularly led sessions for business officers and school leaders at NBOA and National Association of Independent Schools conferences.

Ace will succeed Eric Chafin, who is retiring this summer after twenty-nine years of service to Woodberry Forest. “Eric's leadership at Woodberry Forest has been exemplary,” Byron said. “For almost three decades he has led the charge to care for the school's resources, and we are all indebted to him for his excellent service to our community.”
