William H. White Library Gets New Cork Flooring

The main level of Woodberry Forest's William H. White Library is being refloored this summer with environmentally friendly natural cork planks. Cork flooring has been popular in libraries, churches, and courthouses for over a century because of its durability, comfort, sound absorbency, and beauty. The Library of Congress and the Mayo Clinic are among the many notable buildings that have installed cork flooring. The material's sustainabilty offers further benefits: The trees from which cork is harvested regenerate new bark every nine years, and flooring is manufactured from the ground and compressed "waste" material from the bottle-stopper industry.
