To prepare for the visit, on Thursday, October 21, of author Tobias Wolff, Woodberry Forest held an all-school assembly to discuss Wolff's newest novel. The book, entitled Old School, was read over the summer by the entire community as part of a new summer reading program, and has subsequently inspired discussions in all corners of the campus.

Monday night, however, was the first time the school came together in its entirety for the sharing of impressions and interpretations. Speakers, both those on the faculty-student panel and in the general audience, commented on topics ranging from the nature of the book's ending to the effect of passion and competition on a school community.
