Woodberry Classmates Reconnect at Army-Navy Game

Two Woodberry classmates — and former WFSPN broadcasters — recently reconnected at the Army-Navy football game. J Banzet ’20 works for West Point as the recruiting content coordinator and was taking pictures of the game. Meanwhile, Taft Gantt ’20 was working for CBS Sports as a field producer for sideline reporter Jenny Dell.

"What an incredible experience,” said J. “I have such fond memories of watching this bucket-list game in the A-Dorm commons room and The Fir Tree with guys like Taft, so when I crouched down on our sideline to take pictures and saw him mere yards away with the CBS crew, I just grinned and felt chills run up my spine. We'd made it, and Woodberry had given us the foundation to live out our dreams in the sports world."

“It was a full circle moment for me,” said Taft. “Having distinct memories watching the Army-Navy game with my roommate J, and then actually being there on the sidelines with him knowing that we are both living out our dreams. It was truly a 'pinch me' moment, and if you were to tell us back at Woodberry what we’d be doing less than five years after graduation, I'm not sure either one of us would've believed you.“

When they were students at Woodberry, J and Taft were a broadcasting team for WFSPN.

J joined the Army football support staff in July of 2024 as the coordinator of football recruiting creative content. He was previously the director of media and branding for the University of North Carolina’s hockey team and also spent time as a student manager for the football team. He received his degree from UNC in the spring of 2024 in sports administration.

Meanwhile, during his time at the University of Georgia, Taft was a tireless participant in the school’s sports media program, tackling nearly every role within it to support UGA’s entire sports roster. During his time as a student, Taft added work with professional soccer and golf events — including the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia, the 2022 U.S. Women’s Open, the 2021 U.S. Junior Amateur, and the 2019 U.S. Amateur — to his work covering all of the college’s football and basketball games. Taft is currently a content intern at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
