"Giving Tuesday" Spirit Spans the Year for Class of 2000

Though today, November 27, 2012, has been dubbed Giving Tuesday, members of the Class of 2000 have been working on a gift since this summer. In May one of their classmates, US Army Captain Ben Harrow '00, was injured during his second tour in Afghanistan.

Ben's injuries, sustained when he stepped on a mine, resulted in the loss of both legs and serious damage to one arm. Several of Ben's classmates have set up a fund in cooperation with the nonprofit Operation Once in a Lifetime to help supplement Ben's military benefits and ensure that his young family's needs are met during his recovery. The alumni are also hosting a New Year's benefit celebration in Charleston, South Carolina, and have set up a website to track Ben's recovery.

Ben is living independently in Bethesda with his wife Gina and their son Peyton, and goes to Walter Reed Army Medical Center daily for the rehab work that has resulted in his regaining the ability to drive and to walk. He took a break from all the hard work earlier this month, though, when he and Gina attended The Game at Woodberry.
