Construction of Science Building Underway at Woodberry Forest School

Woodberry Forest School is constructing a new science building on its 1200-acre campus. The $14 million, three-story brick facility, which will be built over the course of the coming year, will provide nearly 44,000 square feet of classroom, lab, study, exhibit, and meeting space to accommodate the school’s growing science program.

Woodberry’s science faculty had a hand in the design of the new building, which has been in the planning stages for several years. To be designed to the highest energy standards, it will feature state-of-the-art laboratories and technology, a roof-level observatory, greenhouse space, and outside classroom and seating areas.

The new structure will be funded entirely through private donations and without debt. The project architect is Bartzen + Ball of Alexandria and Richmond. Construction will be managed by Martin Horn, Inc., of Charlottesville.
Woodberry’s Gray Math-Science Building, now nearly 40 years old, will be renovated to better serve the mathematics department and to provide flexible classroom space.

“The new science building will transform science education at Woodberry Forest School,” said Headmaster Dr. Dennis M. Campbell. “We are grateful to the many alumni, parents, and friends who have enabled us to launch this important project, and to those who will help us complete funding in the coming months.”
