Wrestling Results for Weekend of 1/26/08

Tigers Place 2nd at the Gilman Duals

This past weekend the Tigers traveled to Gilman School in Baltimore to compete in the Gilman Duals.  The Tigers took 2nd place out of 8 teams.  Woodberry wrestled in the finals of the Gilman Duals for only the second time in the history of the tournament.

Woodberry defeated Gilman 50-21in the first round of the Dual Meet Tournament.  Duke Pickett, Chris Cirenza, Ford Schwing, Wilson Maclin, and Luke Schwartz each recorded pins in the win over Gilman.  Bobby Burg and John Smith bumped up one weight class and recorded major decisions while Drew Middleditch bumped up and had a close victory over his opponent.

In the second round the Tigers defeated Kiski 45-21.  Bobby Burg and Drew Middleditch bumped up a weight class again and had important wins.  Bobby had a 6-1 decision over a very tough opponent and Drew had a pin.  Chris Cirenza dropped a 0-7 decision to a Prep All American while Jonny Fitzsimons and Will Sutherland each had overtime victories.  Kiski's upper weights were home sick so the Tigers accepted forfeits at 189, 215, and heavyweight.  Duke Pickett pinned his Kiski opponent in 23 seconds.  Kiksi is a well coached team and has a solid program who placed 9th last year at the Prep National Tournament.

The Tigers lost to a very tough Wyoming Seminary team 15-53 who placed 2nd at last year's Prep National Tournament.  Wilson Maclin, James Peebles, and Duke Pickett each picked up wins.

Duke Pickett and Wilson Maclin were our only undefeated wrestlers over the weekend.

The Tigers finished our dual meet competition with 17 wins and 6 losses.  We now begin our tournament season with 4 tournaments to end the season.  The Tigers will compete in the Prep League Tournament next Saturday at St. Christophers School.
