    Bio
     
    Jackson Matteo is a three-time graduate of the University of Virginia, where he played football from 2012-2016 and served as team captain in 2016. Since then, he served the University of Virginia football program as a graduate assistant coach, working with the defensive backs and the offensive line from 2017-2019 before coming to Woodberry in 2021. Jackson finished his doctorate of education (Ed.D) in Spring 2023 through the UVA School of Education and Human Development, where his research focused on the transition experiences of Black Division-I football players who experience a redshirt-freshman year at a predominantly white institution. 
     
    Currently, Jackson works alongside Ted Watson and Indira Cope with individual students in the Smoot Center for Academic Development, is the head football coach for the varsity football team, works as an assistant athletic director, and lives in Griffin House.

    Pat serves the Woodberry faculty as a part-time member of the language department and teaches upper-level Chinese. A resident of Orange with extensive experience in business and hospitality in addition to education, his teaching experience includes teaching at Ohio State University and working with middle & high school students in the StarTalk @ Wofford summer program. Pat holds a BA in Chinese from William & Mary and a Ph.D. in Chinese Language Pedagogy from Ohio State.

    David McRae holds the William Leland Lord Chair of Mathematics, teaches math, and coaches JV football. He came to Woodberry Forest in 1997. With a BS from Samford University and an MS and PhD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dr. McRae has taught at both the secondary and collegiate level.  He lives with his wife, Alyssa, and their two children, Cody and Elizabeth, in the Bailey Family Faculty Residence.

    Scott Michaels runs Woodberry’s engineering program and teaches ECLIPSE. He taught engineering for three years at Marianapolis Preparatory School in Connecticut. Originally from the UK, Scott received a Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Southampton, where he taught a variety of courses to undergraduate engineering students. He worked for several years as an engineer before entering the teaching profession. He lives on Upper Terry.

    Abbie Mills is the assistant headmaster for academic affairs. 
    She most recently taught engineering and the ECLIPSE program and coached JV football and developmental track.
     
    She came to Woodberry in 2016 after a career at NASA’s Johnson Space Center where she was a senior project engineer and project manager specializing in fuel cell systems. Ms. Mills holds a degree in mechanical engineering from Rice University.  She and her husband, Len Mills, a member of the science department, live in the Rufus Duncan Yellow House with their two sons.

    Len Mills teaches biology and chemistry and serves as head coach of varsity soccer. He came to Woodberry in 2011 as a Kenan-Lewis intern. He earned a BS from Denison University, where he played varsity baseball and soccer. Mr. Mills and his wife, Abbie, assistant headmaster for academic affairs, live in the Rufus Duncan/Yellow House with their two sons.
